Phihong is a participant in the PoE Plus activities with the IEEE. PoE Plus is a proposal to increase the available power from Ethernet cables
from the current 15.4W per port to a level targeted at least 45W. The current specification allows 44-57V at 350mA maximum on a single pair of conductors and a maximum 15.4W.
Even though multiple pairs are available and wires are rated as high as 860mA many issues are being investigated ensure that the increased
power can be done safety and without interfering with the data. Although there are many suggestions on the table, this project is still in the study phase and there is no concurrence on any aspects of a proposed
standard yet. For more information on the PoE plus activity, please see http://www.ieee802.org/3/poep_study/.
Phihong has products today that are delivering higher power in proprietary systems and standard single port injector that delivers 350mA at 56V
for a total 19.6W and remaining compliant to the detection and fault protection requirements of current standard. For more information on this product is available at PSA20U.
