Phihong’s USB Output Adapters Provide Custom OEM Solutions

Fremont, CA (August 22, 2003) — Recent developments in the PSA-05R Series adapters from Phihong provide new custom solutions for portable electronics OEMs. The adapter features a USB socket which allows the data cable to charge a portable device. The new USB adapter maintains its international advantages, namely, universal input and interchangeable clip adapter plugs that enable the power supply to be connected to virtually any power outlet in the world.

Phihong's USB adapters simplify product globalization for OEMs by meeting the European Code of Conduct for no load consumption (< 0.3 watts) and provide interchangeable power plugs to give end-users custom power solutions for their portable electronics.

"This power supply is attractive for global OEMs because it reduces the number of cords necessary when traveling and offers the customer a dual-function data and power cord, worldwide," explained Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. "In addition, OEMs only have to stock one adapter with replaceable power plugs instead of different power converters, greatly simplifying the international approval process of products designed for the global market."

The USB output adapter is designed to support USB power specification 4.75-5.25V @500mA and has wide range input from 90-265Vac. The replaceable power plugs are small, light and cost effective and allow the replacement of multiple inventory counts with a single part number. Applications include any small and lightweight portable electronic products such as PDAs, digital cameras, MPEG players and other personal electronic devices.

The double-insulated adapter is safety approved to UL1950 and meets CE (LVD and EMC) requirements as well as TUV and cUL requirements. The unit meets FCC class B and EN55022B conducted noise limits, and leakage current is less than 250µA.

Phihong's new USB adapter measures just 2.8in. x 1.8in. x 1.4in. Pricing is customer specific with no standard cost and the product is available from Phihong's authorized distributors.
