Phihong Releases New 36W Medical Grade Wall-Plug Adapter with Interchangeable Plugs

Compliant with several of the IEC’s international standards for medical electronics designs, the new PMA36R-120 adapters are suitable for Type BF medical applications including: ventilators, workstations, patient monitoring equipment, & ultrasound machines

Fremont, CA (September 12, 2016) — Phihong, a leading global supplier of OEM power solutions, has released a new 36W medical grade wall-plug adapter designed for use in minimally invasive, bodily floating (Type BF) medical applied parts that have conductive, medium-term, or long-term contact with patients, including: ventilators, workstations, patient monitoring equipment, and ultrasound machines. A limited power source (LPS) with output leakage of <100μA at 264VAC/50Hz, Phihong’s new 36W medical wall-plug adapter is rated for 115 to 230VAC input and 12VDC output, and is available with interchangeable plugs for international compatibility.

Designated the PMA36R-120, the new adapter is compliant with several international standards for the safety and effectiveness of medical electrical equipment published by the International Electromechanical Commission (IEC), including: IEC60601-1-2 Ed4 2014, which addresses electromagnetic disturbances, requirements, and tests, and IEC60601-1:2005+A:2012 2xMOPP, which regulates means of patient protection, ensuring a minimum of 4,000VAC isolation, 8mm creepage, and double insulation. The 36W medical grade wall-plug adapter is also compliant with both US Department of Energy (DOE) Level VI and European Union Code of Conduct (CoC) V Tier 2 energy efficiency standards, and certified to UL 60601-1, CE, and RCM safety specifications.

“Thanks to its IEC medical safety approvals and 2xMOPP designation, the combination of which has become a benchmark for the commercialization of medical equipment in many countries, our new 36W medical grade wall-plug adapter can help simplify end-product qualifications, saving OEMs a significant amount of time and money,” said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. “The PMA36R-120 can also help reduce OEM inventory costs by virtue of its compatibility with both a range of medical devices and seven different international wall plugs.”

The 36W PMA36R-120 medical grade wall-plug adapter features built-in over voltage, over-current, short-circuit, over-temperature, and brown-in and brownout protections, and is available with seven different AC input clips (each sold separately) for compatibility with electrical outlets in: the US, Brazil, Europe, Korea, the UK, Argentina, and Australia. Each adapter measures 106.5mm (4.19”) x 51.5mm (2.03”) x 38.5mm (1.52”) [L x W x H], weighs 220g (7.76oz), and has a 5.5mm x 2.1mm x 10mm fork-and-groove DC plug with an inner (+V) and outer GND(-) plug pin assignment. Allowable operating temperatures for the adapter span 10ºC to +40ºC with up to 90% relative humidity. Pricing in OEM quantities start at $19.25, and samples will be available in Q4 2016 at Phihong distributors.
